This week, I had the profound privilege of walking the historic beaches of Normandy, France, with Young America’s Foundation. Led by the esteemed combat veteran Lt. Col. Allen West, our group of student leaders traversed the very sands that witnessed the valor and sacrifice of countless young men on D-Day, June 6, 1944. As we commemorate the anniversary of this pivotal moment in history, it is essential for us, as Americans, to reflect deeply on the monumental sacrifices made by these brave individuals and the enduring legacy of their actions.

On that fateful day, the Western Allies launched the largest amphibious assault in history against the infamous Atlantic Wall, a fortified line of defense meticulously constructed by the Nazis. With France under brutal occupation for nearly four years, the stakes of this operation could not have been higher. Walking down Omaha Beach, the vulnerability of the landing zone becomes strikingly apparent.
